Silvio Pierorung, vice president of Billboard, an American music media, spoke at the 20th 'World Knowledge Forum' at the Shilla Hotel, Seoul, on the theme of 'K-Pop from a global perspective'.
Pierrotung expects that K-Pop will face a more innovative future.
Billboard magazine, which was founded in New York in 1894, gained credibility by systematically counting and publishing the popularity rankings of American pop music since the 1940s.
In addition to all music genres, the company continues to be the most prestigious popular music charts to date, with more than 100 different charts released each week, including record sales, digital music streaming, music downloads, and broadcast counts.
Mr. Pierrotung says the core values of the billboard charts are accuracy and fairness. "Billboard has strived to obtain accurate and reliable data and quantify it into charts that reflect the current state of the global music market."
In particular, he said, "We are developing a chart that best reflects K-Pop through data and calculation methods appropriate for the Korean market."
He also diagnosed that "K-pop's globalization is not just a temporary phenomenon, it has already been foreseen."
